Temple History
The temple's origins date back to the 3rd century AD, with inscriptions and literary references from various dynasties including the Satavahanas, Chalukyas, and Kakatiyas. Legend has it that Lord Rama himself installed the Sahasralinga, and many saints like Adi Shankara have visited this sacred site.

The temple showcases a blend of Dravidian and Chalukyan architectural styles:
- A 50-meter high gopuram (tower) adorned with intricate carvings
- The main shrine houses the self-manifested (swayambhu) lingam of Mallikarjuna
- Separate sanctum for Goddess Bhramaramba
