Temple Description

The Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple is one of the oldest temples dedicated to Goddess Saraswati in India. It is located on the banks of the Godavari River in Basara, Telangana. The temple is renowned for its spiritual significance and is a popular destination for devotees seeking blessings for education and knowledge.

Temple History

The temple's history dates back to the 6th century CE when it was built by Maharishi Vyas. Legend has it that Sage Vyas was instructed by Lord Shiva to go to the Godavari banks and worship Goddess Saraswati. The sage then established this temple, which has since become a significant center of learning and worship.

Temple Architecture

The temple follows traditional Dravidian architecture. The main sanctum houses the idol of Goddess Saraswati, flanked by Goddesses Lakshmi and Kali. The temple complex includes several mandapams (halls) and a spacious courtyard. Recent renovations have added modern amenities while preserving the ancient architectural elements.
